Hip

Overview

The hip joint is the body’s largest ball-and-socket joint and is responsible for supporting body weight. The hip consists of two main parts:

  • Ball: the rounded head located at the top of the femur
  • Socket: in the pelvis, sometimes referred to as the cup, where the ball fits

Held together by muscles, tendons, and cartilage, the hip joint provides stability and enables a wide range of motion, which lets us walk, run, and play sports.

Any changes, damage, or wear to your hip can result in serious physical limitations, preventing you from living your life to the fullest. Get the comprehensive hip care you need at The Orthopaedic Institute. With our advanced imaging and diagnostic tests, we will be able to provide you with an integrative and personalized hip treatment plan so that you can return to full mobility.
