Biography

Specializing in Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine, Hand & Shoulder Surgery

Dr. Andrew Petrella is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with more than two decades of experience helping patients restore strength, mobility, and confidence in motion. He provides comprehensive care for joint injuries and degenerative conditions, with clinical expertise spanning joint replacement, sports medicine, hand, and shoulder surgery.

A graduate of the University of Michigan, Dr. Petrella earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics before completing his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Florida’s Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he trained extensively in advanced surgical techniques and patient-centered orthopaedic care.

Dr. Petrella has been board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) since 2003 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). He is an active member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, Florida Orthopaedic Society, Florida Medical Association, and the Citrus County Medical Society.

Known for his thoughtful, collaborative approach, Dr. Petrella partners closely with his patients to understand their goals and develop individualized treatment plans—whether that involves surgical intervention, rehabilitation, or non-operative management. His commitment to excellence and compassion has made him a trusted orthopaedic resource throughout the community.
